Maintenance Manager - Cape Town

Location: Time Out Market, Cape Town
Reporting to: General Manager
Role Overview
The Maintenance Manager will be responsible primarily for general maintenance and repairs in the Market front of house, back of house and Vendor Kitchens and Kiosks. Preparing and executing preventative maintenance schedules. Contracting with suppliers and vendors to perform necessary tasks to ensure the daily operation and safety of the market and our guests. Performing repairs on all MEP and public appearance areas.
Key Responsibilities
- Responsible for engineering and maintenance operations of the Market, planning and undertaking scheduled maintenance
- Responds to engineering and maintenance concerns.
- Performs and/or monitors maintenance and preventative maintenance projects.
- Responds to all building related safety concerns and breakdowns.
- Supports Market (CMMS) computerize maintenance management system and executes daily, weekly, and monthly checklists.
- Supervises all additional and temporary maintenance associates.
- Assists Market Management in specifying proper supplies and equipment to stock to ensure daily operations of the market.
- Maintain the Market front of house and back of the areas in good repair by performing various tasks related to a variety of trades including carpentry, plumbing, electrical, air conditioning, and tiling to ensure an attractive and well-maintained Market.
- Possess a basic knowledgeable hand/power tool operation.
- Partners with Market Operations Management to ensure compliance with health and safety legislation.
- Managing stocks and supplies of equipment.
- Ability to make minor cosmetic repairs
- Calling service providers for equipment warranty repair
- Understanding of equipment functionality and ability to troubleshoot any issues
- Knowledge of grease interceptors maintenance and filtering
- Preparing preventive maintenance checklists and daily venue walkthrough
- Knowledge of fryer oil cleaning, removal, and transport
- Ensure all requests for maintenance are carried out within the acceptable time frame
Skills and Experience
- A strong background of electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and carpentry concepts.
- At least 2 years of experience in a similar capacity.
- Experience in and a general understanding of miscellaneous M&R processes including, painting, drywall etc.
- Be able to work in a standing position for long periods of time (up to 5 hours).
- Must be available to respond to emergencies when not physically at site.
- Ability to satisfactorily communicate in English, management, co-workers, and
- vendors.
- Ability to work a variety of varying schedules including nights and weekends
- Ability to perform assigned duties with attention to detail, speed, accuracy, follow-through, courtesy, cooperativeness, and work with a minimum of supervision.
- Ability to satisfactorily communicate in English (speak, read, write) with co-workers and management to their understanding.
- Ability to accurately compute and manipulate mathematical calculations.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Ability to effectively deal with internal and external some of whom will require high levels of patience, tact, and diplomacy to defuse anger.
- Ability to work well under pressure and handle multiple tasks at once.
- Punctuality and regular and reliable attendance.
- Must possess a high level of honesty and integrity.
