Role overview:
As the Translations Editor for Time Out, you will have responsibility for creating excellent English-language translations of our travel guides content in French, Spanish and Portuguese.
As a brilliant and well-organised copy editor, you will work closely with our English-language travel team and our local editors in France, Spain and Portugal. You will identify content opportunities, translate them into proficient, highly readable English using the latest technology and your editorial skills, and publish them on our website.
While this position will primarily use machine translation, the ideal candidate will ideally have advanced proficiency in at least one out of Spanish, French and Portuguese, and at least a basic understanding of all three languages. This position would especially suit a modern-languages graduate working in a junior editorial role and looking for their next step.
Responsibilities
To produce excellent, readable English-language travel guides in Time Out’s tone of voice, with the help of AI translation tools, and based on the expertise of our local editors.
To manage production workflows and collaborate with colleagues to prioritise workloads and ensure regular publication of translated content.
To expand Time Out’s audience in our key countries.
To deepen the engagement of Time Out’s audience with our content.
To pursue editorial excellence through original ideas, innovation, editorial quality and timeliness.
To contribute to the delivery of Time Out’s global content strategy.
To collaborate closely with colleagues in SEO, social, video, design and elsewhere to execute, expand, develop and optimise our translated guides coverage.
To create, update and share an annual editorial calendar for translated guides.
To monitor the performance of your content across all platforms, and use performance data wherever possible to inform editorial decisions.
To read and follow all current editorial guidelines, policies, strategies and best practice documents, including the content handbook.
To contribute occasionally to commercial and affiliate content within your area(s) of expertise, and identify and assist with commercial and affiliate opportunities wherever possible.
